2019 Anne-Sophie Dubois, Fleurie, "Les Labourons"
ORIGIN: Beaujolais, France
Special Notes: Natural wine, clean and no funk. Unfined and unfiltered.
Anne-Sophie Dubois (from a Champagne family) started making wines here since her mid-20s and her wines get better and better. Her vines are all from the very steep climat of Les Labourons which surrounds the Domaine like a amphitreatre. The micro-climate there is also cooler than other parts of Fleurie. Part of the 8 ha of vineyards are sold to the local co-op but will be taken back from 2019 onwards as demand for her wines in the export market has escalated. The style here is a mix of classicism and naturalish. Little sulphur is used and vinification is semi-carbonic maceration.
From climat of Les Labourons. From younger vines and aged in a mix of barrels and tanks. This is already very expressive and generous now. Sourced from 40+-year-old vines in the granite-rich soils of Fleurie, Anne-Sophie’s “L’Alchimiste” Anne-Sophie’s vineyards are some of the highest elevation sites in Fleurie, which itself is one of the highest-elevation Cru Villages in Beaujolais. 100% destemmed. Aged for 15 months in a combination of cement vats and larger, used oak barrels.
Tasting Notes: Silky and aromatic, light and dry. Red fruit and a tad smokey.
Food Recommendation: Smoked meats, grilled beef and fatty meats.
