2018 Domačija Butul, Primorska Baby Orange Malvazija (Orange Wine with Skin Contact)

From great grandfather, grandfather and father, generations have always made macerated malvasia. From early days, wine cellar had soil on the floor and sardines in wood barrels on salt. After a hard days work, its easy to grab a sardine from the salt barrel and sip on a glass from the queen of malvasia. The taste is unforgettable and brings you back to the farm.
The wines are aged in wooden barrels sur-lie (on the yeast lees and sediment) for two years or more, natural yeast only and no temperature control. The use of a traditional process whereby grapes are dried selectively by the 'burja' wind (a cold northerly regional wind)to produce high-level wines.
A orange wine made from malvasia, with no added sulphur it shows a light peach orange hue with freshness, minerality and sustainable long mouthfeel are preserved in a completely natural way. It serves as a natural antioxidant and gives additional richness. Knowing that, it is a pleasure to drink it even if it is intentionally cloudy. 2017 was a good year for our Malvazija. The grapes were macerated for 2 weeks and put in barrels on lees from actual and few previous years. It presents a very specific mineral taste, combined with the citrus freshness of young wines. Slightly chilled it is perfect as a summer wine.
Food Recommendations: Excellent with our Firecracker Pork Pasta, Green Curry Lentil Prawns and Hokkaido Scallop with Pork Belly, also, the Rooibos Purin!
