2018 Charles Lachaux, Bourgogne Rouge, 'La Croix Blanche'
ORIGIN: Burgundy, France
GRAPE: Pinot Noir
Special Notes: Biodynamic, minimal intervention.
This delightful, fruit forward Bourgogne hails from less than half a hectare of vines planted in 1970 in Vosne-Romanée. The parcel sits in the north of the commune, in the vineyard known as La Croix Blanche which is a very stony, well drained site with almost white (limestone-rich) soils.
The wine was made from 100% whole bunches, wild-fermented in stainless steel and raised for 12 months in five-year-old oak barrels and then bottled unfiltered. It's an exceptionally pretty wine with cherry-violet perfume underscored by sappy-meaty complexity, a fine, remarkably classy personality in the mouth and powder-fine tannins. Superb for this level.
Food Recommendation: Charred House-poached Octopus Risotto, Sakura Pork, Hokkaido Scallop with Pork Belly
