2017 Polvanera Falanghina Puglia IGT
ORIGIN: Puglia, Italy
Most of the Falanghina we've had in the past have come from Campania, but this one hails from the Province of Bari in Puglia. It is believed that Falanghina (fah-lahn-geen-ah) had been in the region well before the Greeks colonized Italy. Prized by the Romans, it was probably the basis for the most famous oxidized, highly alcoholic wine of Roman antiquity, Falernian. Producers of Falanghina respect this history, but nowadays they strive to make their wines easy-to-drink for modern consumers who might be looking to diversify away from Pinot Grigio.
Flavor Profile: "Pale yellow colour with a beautiful crystalline aspect. Intense and fine notes of bergamot, peach, apricot, banana, chamomile, lemon balm and sage. Creamy and balanced palate, brightened by a pleasant fresh vein of mineral acidity; long finish with hints of citrus and herbs." Producer Notes. Pair with fried calamari, grilled shrimp, seafood pasta dressed with garlic, herbs, and olive oil.Food Recommendations: Scallop Carpaccio, Cured Fish, even Kurobuta Grilled Pork
