Etienne Grivot and his wife Marielle (Patrick Bize's sister) took over from his father in 1990, making him the fifth generation of Grivots to make wine in Vosne-Romanée. In the 1930s it was one of the first domaines to bottle and sell the wines themselves. The Grivots go back a long way in Burgundy. Indeed two previous generations of Grivots have married girls of the same surname. Jean Grivot, whose name continues to appear on the labels, took over from his father in 1955 and handed on to his son Etienne in the early 1980s.

Etienne describes 2016 as a “difficult growing season that was marked by frost and mildew. With yields down  around 30% but they were highly disparate in that there were losses in Chambolle, Clos de Vougeot, Echézeaux and Nuits with the exception of Boudots. By contrast Vosne was largely spared though we did lose some production in Suchots. Whole berries were destemmed to rid of green tannins.

Pithy, full flavoured Bourgogne rouge that is ripe, juicy and refreshing. Crisp, edgy red berry and cherry fruit flavours mixed with notes of herb and sap. An old vine Bourgogne from the Vosne-Romanée commune with utterly delicious flavors that possess good balance and just enough finishing structure to suggest that this should reward a few years of cellaring. Delicious!
