About Veronica Ortega & Kinki

Verónica Ortega is an oenologist from Cádiz who, before falling in love with the vine growing qualities of the Bierzo Valley, was trained in great wineries like Clos Erasmus and Alvaro Palacios (in Priorat), Domaine de la Romanée Conti and Comte Armand (in Burgundy) and Domaine Combier (in the North Rhone Valley). She is currently located in the small town of Valtuille de Abajo where she makes white and red wines, using precise methods and little intervention, these are wines that show off the excellence of the area’s ancient varieties like Mencía and Godello.

Verónica Ortega Kinki comes from old vines with an average age of 80 years old that are planted in clay-sandy soils with a high mineral content. By using respectful cultivation methods, the vintner emphasises the importance of vine care and selection in getting the best results. In line with organic farming methods, the work in the vineyard is artisanal and the grapes are manually harvested into 15kg boxes.

In the winery, Verónica Ortega Kinki grapes are destemmed and poured into stainless steel tanks for light, spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts and a short maceration of about 10 days. The wine is then aged in a combination of French oak barrels and 800-litre fired clay amphorae.

Tasting Notes: Light & Fresh with complexity.

Food Recommendation: Grilled seafood, Prawns & Octopus
